Yucaipa National dominated play in the second half to claim
the summer league Playoffs Championship of the Yucaipa
Adult Men's Soccer League.

YUCAIPA - Yucaipa National overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit, turned up the defensive pressure, and went on a scoring barrage to dominate second half play and claim a 9-1 victory over Yucaipa Krusty Krew to win the first Playoffs Championship of the Yucaipa Valley Adult Soccer League, Sunday night at Seventh Street Park.

"We started slow as usual," said National Head Coach, Francisco Delgado. "But we always seen to finish strong."

National tied the score at three minutes into the second half and from that point on they dominated play. "In the second half we spread the ball and our passes started connecting," said Assistant Coach, Sam Ramirez. "We pressured them more and I think we wore them out."

A key performer for National was high-scoring Sergio Salinas. The fleet-of-foot forward dominated the Krusty Krew defenders near the goal in the second half. Three times Salinas found net to lead all scorers.

"He led us in scoring, and if he's not the top scorer in the league, he's one of the top," said Delgado

Sergio Salinas scored three goals to lead Yucaipa National.

National swept the summer league regular season with an 8-0 record in the nine-team league. The Playoffs Championship wraps up the first adult men's soccer league in Yucaipa since the 1970s and '80s, when the area had a strong adult league.

National will be formidable again when the fall league begins play Oct. 19 at the Jerry Lewis Regional Soccer Complex near Yucaipa Regional Park.
